The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) hosted a forum entitled "Abu Dhabi International Forum for Training in the Field of Combating Avian Flu" from April 9 to 10, 2006. The forum was organized by the National Program for Health Professional Skills Development in the UAE, in cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Council of Trauma, the Advanced Life Support Group (UK), the National Disaster Life Support Foundation, the Hamad International Training Center, the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), The American Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), the University of Georgia and the ECSSR.
H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Kindi, Minister of Environment and Water, delivered the keynote speech, in which he highlighted the efforts made for possible prevention of the avian flu and assured the UAE that it will remain free of the disease. ECSSR's Deputy Director-General of Community Services, spoke about the importance of this forum in boosting the preparedness for a possible pandemic. The ceremony comprised several scientific events and workshops that provided opportunity for training medical and administrative staff in combating avian flu.
The event has attracted participation of distinguished international experts in the field of combating natural and biological disasters and crises.
