We Win by Social Solidarity and National Unity
- 1 April 2020
National unity, as well as solidarity between the segments and individuals of society, has always been the cornerstone in responding to challenges and achieving the progress that civilized nations seek. The same applies to the United Arab Emirates where the special relationship between the nationals and residents is unique in the region. Even before uniting the emirates, our leaders paid close attention to strengthening this relationship.
The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God rest his soul in peace) was always keen to promote social unity. Whenever he spoke about providing services or aid, his discussion included nationals and residents. And the wise leadership represented by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (may God protect him), follows Sheikh Zayed’s example. In the same context, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces (may God protect him), while he was closely following up and leading the continuous and massive efforts in the fight against coronavirus inside and outside the UAE said the following:
The whole world is experiencing a difficult challenge. I say to our national task force: you have a historical national responsibility. Your leaders follow up on your field efforts with great gratitude and appreciation. We believe that your efforts will, with the assistance of God, clinch victory in this battle. What you are doing will be steeped in the history of this nation. In this crisis, we take pride of the stance of our citizens and residents and we are honored to serve them. We cherish our residents and we are happy to have them on this land. It is a gesture of loyalty to see them chant the UAE national anthem in this difficult time. We are lucky to have you all here among us in our homeland. We will together overcome this crisis time, God willing.
This speech is of paramount importance, especially during this difficult time, which calls for solidarity as well as national and moral responsibility. It carries the following messages:
First: The speech is, at its core, a message of reassurance to everyone in the United Arab Emirates that the wise leadership is directly leading and following up the national efforts in the fight against coronavirus. Our wise leadership spends day and night at all levels mobilizing resources to combat the pandemic that threatens everyone without exception. This is why we see His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan overseeing, on a daily basis, every detail to make sure that things are on the right track. The ultimate goal of course is to protect and secure people against any harm and guarantee their comfort.
Second: The speech stresses national unity and solidarity among citizens and residents in combating this pandemic. It also highlights the necessity to spare no effort in doing this so that the country can overcome this crisis as soon as possible, with a minimal loss. The sense of responsibility demonstrated by the people in the United Arab Emirates towards this challenge is quite obvious. We can see their compliance with the Government’s advice and guidance; these are not compulsory as they are in other countries. The UAE is keen to guarantee people’s security in a balanced manner, so as not to obstruct their day-to-day lives. People have responded to and complied with these measures in a manner that gives us pride. In fact, this experience is a model for other nations to follow because it has proven outstandingly successful. These measures will, God willing, achieve their ultimate goal, which is to protect people and their health.
Third: The speech confirms the deep relationship between nationals and residents in the UAE, and that the wise leadership keeps this relationship strong. Because of this, all people in the UAE have been shown respect throughout the years.
Fourth: It is an international message of solidarity. The United Arab Emirates shares in the suffering of other nations. It is a trusted partner in the fight against this lethal virus. And it is ready to provide a helping hand to combat the pandemic and tackle its implications.
