UAE’s Message of Peace from New York

  • 11 May 2014

The 10th Zayed Charity Marathon took place on Saturday in Central Park, New York, under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and showed off the UAE’s potential for success anywhere in the world. The Marathon has become a prominent annual sporting event on US soil, enjoying great interest and attracting thousands of participants, and a significant increase in number as specified by the Central Park administration and the company organizing the Marathon, at 13,000. This confirms the great development achieved by the Marathon annually and the efforts exerted by the Higher Organizing Committee, headed by Lieutenant General Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi.

The proceeds of the Marathon go to one of the US institutions specializing in research for the treatment of kidney disease. From this, the UAE sends via the Marathon a message of peace to the whole world, not only by its name, but also on behalf of Arabs and Muslims. His Excellency Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR), attended the Marathon for the second time. This message is indeed important because it confronts those looking to defame Arabs and Muslims, as well as those who hijack Islam, distorting its image to the world, and ignoring its tolerance and moderation.

The Zayed Charity Marathon carries the name of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, (may God have mercy upon him), a great leader whose good track record in the service of humanity and extending the hand of support to the needy clearly underlines the humanity of the UAE’s policy under the leadership of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him). The high principles that govern its approach in this regard are at the forefront and provide humanitarian support impartially regardless of geography, religion or race. This is one of the most important reasons that characterize this approach, and the UAE has become a key element in international humanitarian action. This was confirmed recently by the Development Assistance Committee, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which revealed that the UAE has occupied top position globally as the largest donor of foreign aid compared to its national income in 2013.
