During his meeting with the US Secretary of State John Kerry, Minister of Foreign Affairs His Highness Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed Al Nahyan clearly enunciated the UAE’s position in line with its consistent policy in support of Egypt’s security, stability and progress. His Highness Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed’s made it clear that the UAE does not like to see any party holding Egypt back from its progress. He added that “Egypt is extremely vital to Arab countries and the whole region,” and that it is essential that the US leadership helps it in calming down the situation in Egypt. His Highness’ position indicates the UAE’s keen interest in Egypt, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) and its willingness to help the Egyptian people overcome difficult times. The UAE believes that stability in Egypt will have a positive effect on the whole region.
With this in mind, the UAE has taken several crucial economic and political steps in support of the Egyptian people in recent weeks. The UAE has offered $3 billion to Egypt, which has increased its foreign currency reserves to $20 billion for the first time in two years, according to the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt. A high-level UAE delegation also visited Cairo to offer it further assistance to achieve greater development and stability. Under the direct instructions of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), an ‘Egypt in our Hearts’ campaign was launched by the UAE Red Crescent Authority in support of the Egyptian people and to help them overcome difficult conditions. In addition, the statements of support made by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) and other high-ranking UAE officials underline the strength of UAE-Egypt relations and affirmed UAE’s interest in boosting them at all levels.
The positive image of the UAE’s wise leadership and its people on the hearts and minds of the Egyptian people helped overcome attempts by some forces to tarnish bilateral relations. Once things were set right, relations were restored after June 30th. As usual, the UAE has taken the initiative to express its support and offer every help possible to Egyptians. The statements of His Highness Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his meeting with the US Secretary of State affirm that the UAE will continue to firmly support Egypt.
