UAE Key Exponent of Joint Gulf Endeavor

  • 24 November 2010

On every occasion, the UAE leadership has affirmed the great support it extends to the joint Gulf endeavor at all levels. President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during his meeting last Monday with Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) Abdul Rahman Al-Attiya reiterated the steadfast and principled UAE stance in this regard. His Highness stressed the keenness of the United Arab Emirates to support the march of the bloc in all fields. He informed their Majesties and Highnesses, leaders of the GCC states, that Abu Dhabi would be hosting the 31st summit of the GCC in early December and wished it success and good fortune in reaching decisions and developing recommendations that meet the aspirations of the GCC people to achieve more success within the framework of a united vision and a common destiny for the states.

Perhaps, it is an auspicious thing that the UAE is hosting the next Gulf summit in the same month it is celebrating its 39th National Day. It is a festive occasion when all Emaratis and Arabs reminisce about the historic and pioneering steps the UAE Rulers took in forming the Federation under the leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The Federation was born out of the Ruler’s conviction in the value of unity and the necessity to work diligently in order to confront all the critical challenges and obstacles. It is an occasion that reminds us every year of the success of unity and of our achievements, and expresses the deep devotion towards it in the hearts and minds of all UAE citizens. These sentiments would be a source of inspiration for the Gulf summit and would encourage it to work harder to achieve Gulf unity and accomplish greater integration among peoples of the region.

It is certain that when a summit is held in the land of the Federation, which is also the birthplace of the GCC (the venue for the launch of the bloc in May 1981), that it would be highly successful. Therefore, the words of the Secretary General during his meeting with President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, were encouraging when he expressed confidence that the upcoming Abu Dhabi summit would mark an important turning point in the GCC’s march towards the future, and affirmed that the vision of the UAE Founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, would shape the work and success of the GCC and would provide great benefits to its peoples.

Throughout the different phases of GCC’s history, the UAE has always been at the forefront of its supporters and the foremost exponent of its development that has helped upgrade its working mechanisms, has actively contributed to its decision-making in line with the aspirations and ambitions of the people of the region, which they seek in a highly comprehensive and coherent manner in all fields. The UAE draws its position on the common Gulf endeavor from its unflinching belief that the growing regional and international potential that the GCC states enjoy can only be fully nurtured and the threats and challenges facing the region can only be successfully confronted through active cooperation and unity and by the building of common visions and policies to this end.
