The Real Wealth of the Nation
- 23 May 2013
Based on a firm belief that human capital is the biggest treasure of the nation, the UAE has been investing heavily in harnessing citizens to build a qualified cadre of human resource. The country realizes that it cannot achieve greater progress without qualified personnel capable of making effective contribution toward the nation’s development. His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, highlighted this fact while launching Stage 2 of the ‘Abshir Initiative’ on Tuesday. His Highness elaborated the reasons why the UAE focuses on nurturing manpower.
To begin with, it is the human capital and not energy resources that are the country’s most precious treasure. Hence there is a need to train UAE citizens properly so that they take up leading positions. As a result, all development initiatives being made in social and economic sectors are focused mainly on citizens and look for ways to improve their skills. Moreover, the national employment strategy is meant to find the best means to employ UAE nationals in both the public and private sectors.
The issues highlighted by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reflect the firm belief of the UAE’s wise leadership that citizens are capable of taking up positions of responsibility in various sectors. It also explains the leadership’s willingness to prepare the ground for optimal utilization of human resource toward the country’s progress. His Highness pointed out that “the UAE’s citizens are the backbone of our nation and it is our duty to help them become capable of contributing to the service of their nation”.
The statement goes on to show that this remains the main priority of all national development schemes. This is also the core philosophy behind the Phase of Empowerment – launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) – which is designed to build an environment based on innovation so as to maximize the UAE citizens’ contribution to social and political life.
Citizens are the UAE’s ultimate resource and the most important element of the country’s march toward greater progress in the future. They are also the main focus of the wise leadership, which gives enormous attention to education, health, housing and social welfare programs. The idea behind all these efforts is to enhance their capability to contribute to the nation’s progress and achievements.
