The National Day

  • 1 December 2014

On December 2 every year very fond memories are revived in the hearts of all Emiratis. On this very day, in the year 1971, the nation was united under one flag and one leadership. Since then, the UAE has been on a journey toward glory and excellence under the leadership of the Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul), who alongside his brothers, Rulers of the Emirates, believed in unity and toiled for it. They considered it the road to progress and accomplishments.

The 34th National Day comes this year, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), when the UAE is at the peak of progress. In fact, the UAE’s name has become synonymous with various achievements at regional and international levels. This special occasion also comes at a time of social and political stability in the UAE owing to sustained engagement between the people and the leadership. This has been achieved due to the prudent policies of our wise leadership and its keenness to resist those who try to disturb peace and stability or harm the values of openness, tolerance, and moderation, which make the country unique in the region and internationally.

People of the UAE started celebrating the 43rd National Day remarkably early, which shows their deep love for the country. This demonstrates that they seize whatever opportunity they get to display their affection and loyalty for the motherland and that this is the time to express their joy and satisfaction. This expression of sheer joy was also evident in the international reports and surveys, as recorded by the World Happiness Report 2013, which ranked the UAE first among Arab nations and 14th in the world. This marked the improvement of three ranks from the 2012 report in which it occupied 17th rank internationally.

The National Day celebration exemplifies the value of unity that has helped the UAE attain great achievements. It is also an expression of their loyalty to the founders of the UAE who overcame all obstacles on their way. It shows that the people’s progress in the country is being guided by the ‘phase of empowerment’ not only to preserve their success but also to achieve more. This is in line with the boundless ambitions of our wise leadership and the UAE Vision 2021, which aims to make the UAE one of the most successful nations by its 50th National Day. Indeed, every National Day comes with the UAE adding more to its pioneering development march. The 43rd UAE National Day has filled the hearts of Emiratis with pride and has given them confidence for the future.
