The 11th edition of the Zayed Charity Marathon was organized in New York on Saturday under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. This was part of the several initiatives that have become the face of UAE’s humanitarian efforts. The proceeds of the marathon go to the Healthy Kidney Foundation, a hospital specializing in kidney research, and contribute towards new treatments to tackle the disease and benefit people all around the world. According to Kevin Longino, CEO of Kidney Foundation, the UAE alone has 26 million kidney patients.

The marathon carries the name of the Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul). Sheikh Zayed was a great leader whose efforts in the service of humanity went beyond supporting the needy. His humanitarian values have become part of the UAE’s policy under the leadership of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him). The principles that govern the UAE’s approach in this regard are evident and provide humanitarian support regardless of geography, religion or race of the recipient. This characterizes the UAE’s approach and makes it a key component of international humanitarian efforts.

The 11th edition of Zayed Charity Marathon was a big success, thanks to the tireless efforts made by its organizing committee, headed by Lieutenant General Mohammed Hilal Al-Kaabi. It witnessed participation of people of all ages and nationalities. The active role played by various UAE entities presented a positive image of the UAE during the event. It reaffirmed the fact that charity and care are deeply rooted in the culture of the people of the UAE.

The ECSSR always demonstrates keenness to participate in the marathon as it understands the importance of its humanitarian and cultural dimensions. The Center also grabbed this opportunity by distributing its publications, which highlight the virtues of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan such as With United Strength: H.H.
