The Consistent UAE Position

  • 5 August 2013

UAE Foreign Minister His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s condemnation of the car bombing that took place in Bahrain recently – describing it as a criminal and terrorist act – and his reiteration of support for Bahrain, reflect the UAE’s consistent position, which is based on the following principles. First, the UAE firmly believes in collective Gulf security and regards threat to any GCC country as a threat to the UAE and its security. His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted this when who pointed out that “Bahrain’s security and stability is part of UAE’s security and stability”.

Second: The UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) is keen to ensure stability in Arab countries of the Gulf region and beyond. The UAE is increasingly willing to take measures at all levels to maintain this security. This has been a consistent policy since the times of Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul), who firmly believed that unity is the main pillar that supports collective action, security, development and stability in the Arab world.

Third: The UAE supports all endeavors, at regional and international levels, that are aimed at tackling terrorism and considers terror as a serious threat to security of nations, international peace, stability, coexistence and positive engagement between cultures and civilizations. The UAE has set an example of openness, tolerance and understanding and shuns extremism, violence and fundamentalism. Such an approach makes the country an active partner in any regional or international initiative aimed at strengthening these values and development plans in several countries. The UAE treats development as a strong deterrent to terror and violence.

The stand taken by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the car bombing incident in Bahrain is not the first of its kind. It has adopted similar positions in the past and the UAE government has announced its unequivocal support for the Bahraini people facing riots. The UAE supports dialogue as a means to settle disputes and has expressed its readiness to support Bahrain in its battle against terror and attempts to undermine peace and security in the country. As a result, the world looks at the UAE as a force of regional stability and a source of inspiration for all who cherish moderation and shun extremism and violence across the globe.
