Symbol of Unity and Pride

  • 1 November 2014

When citizens and institutions simultaneously fly the UAE flag on the 3rd of November, over buildings and houses celebrating the UAE ‘Flag Day’, it will mark a historic moment connecting the hearts and minds in unity, dignity and pride. The event will reaffirm that the efforts made by our forefathers over the years have resulted in the UAE becoming a prominent model of unity, with a deep sense of belonging to the nation, and absolute loyalty to the leadership. It also means that the Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul), has left the nation in good hands under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him).

What His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said on this occasion, clearly expresses the significance of determining a day to celebrate the UAE flag. His Highness tweeted calling citizens and institutions to raise the UAE flag at noon on the 3rd of November to send one message, that “we are not Emirates, we are the United Arab Emirates … our flag will remain fluttering high and glorious and as strong as the people of the UAE.”

The people of the UAE have always demonstrated love and loyalty and are ever willing to answer the calls of the homeland. Its people are keen to show their affection for the homeland and this is evident on national events, especially National Day on December 2 every year. The citizens’ enthusiasm to perform national military service as they streamed in to registration centers indicates their affiliation to their country. Some even demanded inclusion despite their age being below the limit. This shows their pride and sense of belonging to the UAE and their faith in the values on which the country was established in 1971.

The UAE has achieved progress and prosperity because of unity and support of its sons and despite attempts to destroy its cohesion and loyalty to the leadership. The country enjoys political, social, economic and security stability and charts its course with full confidence to achieve its development aspirations in spite of the conflicts plaguing the region. The people of the UAE, who have proved their loyalty to the world, will re-confirm its meaning more strongly on the 3rd of November. The Flag Day will remain a symbol of unity of the nation’s fabric in the face of attempts to undermine it by any party and under any slogan.
