Strategic Support for Egypt

  • 14 December 2014

Since Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul), laid the foundations of a historic, strong and well established relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Arab Republic of Egypt, the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), has given attention and support to political, economic and social relations between the two countries. This has become a living example of constructive and fruitful cooperation for progress and security sought by the two brotherly Arab people.

As the current elected Egyptian government inherited a number of economic, social and security challenges, and continues to grapple with terrorism, a firm Gulf, Arab and world position is required to stand by its people so that they tackle these crises. They must receive strategic support via economic openness, investment and help to various sectors. The UAE has extended this support through government channels, business community in the private sector, and civil society organizations.

This strategic support has not ignored the importance of the participation of women in the development of the country. The remarks made by Her Highness Mother of the Nation Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairperson of Family Development Foundation and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, during the inauguration of the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Language School in Nasr City, Cairo, following its renovation, demonstrates the UAE’s approach toward Egypt. Her Highness said that the UAE-Egypt relations have reached another level owing to cooperation in the field of development.

This school and other UAE development projects in Egypt reflect the depth of relations between the two people, hoping that the school would further educate a number of female students who can contribute effectively toward building a greater Egypt, she added. Thanks to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), the UAE has invested heavily in a number of development projects in Egypt, especially those related to infrastructure, housing, education, food, security, health care, environment, transportation, and energy. They are aimed at making a tangible and immediate impact on more than 10 million Egyptians and providing more than 600,000 jobs, which will contribute toward economic and social stability in Egypt.

During a meeting with a popular Egyptian delegation, which visited Abu Dhabi recently, His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, expressed the motive behind strategic support for Egypt. He said that support is not for one faction or party at the expense of another but it is for the Egyptian state, which has an important role to play in the Middle East and the Arab region. The UAE is certain that a stable and strong Egypt creates equilibrium in the Arab world and countries of the region.
