The Year 2015 was full of achievements for the UAE in economic, political, cultural, technological, social, humanitarian and military fields. These achievements have taken local, regional and global dimensions. The UAE launched several initiatives to serve its citizens and people around the world. Thanks to these achievements, the UAE has gone a long way towards achieving its development goals, seeking to fulfill the ambition to etch its name among most advanced countries in the world by 2021.

Under the country’s wise leadership, under President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces (may God protect them), the UAE has made tremendous achievements with its active participation in regional and global efforts against terrorism and defending security and stability around the world. This is evident in its participation in Operations Decisive Storm and Restoring Hope for restoring legitimacy in Yemen. The UAE role stands by its brothers in all circumstances and works with them to safeguard regional security and stability.

Another major achievement has been the fight against terrorism. The UAE has not limited its efforts to military domain but has also taken initiatives such as issuing Law No. 2 of 2015, Anti-Discrimination and Hatred law, criminalizing acts associated with contempt of religion or their sanctities, all forms of discrimination and hate speech. The Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies was established in Abu Dhabi this year, marking an important step in the fight against extremist elements. The UAE’s space mission has been another bright spot in 2015. The year witnessed the launch of the Emirates Mars Mission (Hope) project, the first Arab and Islamic probe to reach Mars. Its completion will coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the Union. UAE is one of only nine countries with their own space programs to explore the Red Planet.

Year 2015 also marked execution phase of KhalifaSat, which has been fully manufactured in the UAE using national capability. It is the first satellite produced fully in the Arab world. This year also saw the launch of Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, meant to support innovation and technical progress to advance sustainable development by tapping the space sector, one of the most technologically advanced and cognitive sectors. This year, Her Excellency Dr. Amal Al-Qubaisi was elected President and Speaker of the Federal National Council, becoming the first woman to head a parliamentary institution in the Arab world. This demonstrates the exceptional status Emirati women occupy in the development of the community and as an active member influencing the shaping of its future.

Many other achievements made headlines in 2015, including the UAE celebrating Commemoration Day to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by heroes of the nation. It deregulated fuel prices, which is a significant step towards rationalization of consumption, ensuring sustainability of energy sources and protection of the environment. Year 2015 was also declared as the Year of Innovation. This year, Schengen Visa waiver was granted to UAE nationals for EU countries and the UAE’s Science, Technology and Innovation Higher Policy was announced. All these achievements are the result of comprehensive vision that will change the equations of the economy and drive the UAE rapidly on the path towards comprehensive development in the years to come.
