Steady Defense of Gulf and Arab Interest

  • 21 February 2016

The UAE has always been in the forefront of responding to calls and implementing resolutions and decisions relating to the defense of the interests of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries (GCC) and the Arab nation. It has spared no effort to take initiatives to protect these interest based on an unwavering stand in favour of promoting joint Gulf and Arab action in the face of common threats and increasing challenges.

In this regards, the full support expressed by the UAE for the decision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to undertake a comprehensive review of its relations with the Lebanese Republic and to cease military aid to the Lebanese army and security forces. This decision came following persistent negative stands by Lebanon towards Arab unanimity.

The UAE stand is a clear expression of the intangible principles guiding its foreign policy. Therefore, it is no coincidence that the UAE was the first to join the “Decisive Storm” in Yemen to restore legitimacy and defend the brotherly Yemeni people from the Houthi and the deposed President Saleh militias. Several martyrs of the UAE armed forces gave their lives for the sake of achieving the lofty objectives of this military operation.

This firm stand reflects the UAE’s willingness to foster joint Gulf and Arab action. The UAE also considers the security of the GCC as an indivisible part of its own security. From this perspective, the Gulf and Arab interests are placed above all else by the UAE which remains fully ready to take decisions to promote cooperation between Gulf and Arab states in countering terrorism and extremism.

On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE armed forces (may God protect him) has affirmed on multiple occasion that Arabs are the only ones who can safeguard Arab interests and defend their rights and causes through joint action and solidarity. This is all the more important given the current context in the Arab region which faces difficult challenges and conditions that require. Thus the current UAE leadership continues on the path established by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul).
