Sources of Power in the UAE

While receiving the National Committee of the World Energy Council, celebrating the UAE winning the right to host World Energy Conference 2019, His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, referred to two main reasons behind the country’s excellence and huge influence at both regional and international levels. These are the country’s wise leadership and its comprehensive and balanced foreign policy.

His Highness emphasized that the great position occupied by the UAE as one of the most influential countries across various fields, especially in the field of energy, is the natural outcome of the efforts made by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) and his approach of investing in the nation’s capabilities and resources.

Since its establishment in 1971, the UAE has been considered a model of leadership that influences progress worldwide. The leadership of Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul), played an integral role in the success of the unity experiment and laying the foundations of progress attained by the UAE in recent decades. The vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is evident in the way he has empowered nationals for major development initiatives and the aspirations that the leadership wishes to achieve in the years to come.

Referring to the role of active and moderate foreign policy of the UAE in ensuring international support for the UAE’s positions, His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that the privileged status the UAE has attained, and the friendly relations it has with different countries around the world, have contributed to winning the right to host the World Energy Conference 2019.

It is worth noticing that this is not the first time the UAE has succeeded in a bid of this kind. The country has already won the right to host Expo 2020, despite tough competition from different contenders. It also won the right to host headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) surpassing advanced countries which were keen to host the organization.

All these point to two fundamental facts; first, the world trusts the UAE’s ability to organize most important international economic, political, and cultural events. It also shows that the UAE’s foreign policy is guided by insightful vision – evident in the activities of UAE Foreign Minister His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan – and is keen to pursue diplomatic efforts to engage positively and efficiently with regional and international developments.
