Promoting Culture of Excellence in Education
- 17 September 2014
Since the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) launched its Annual Education Conference in 2010, its primary objective has been to make education in the UAE at par with the comprehensive development experienced by the country under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him). Efforts have been made to make its advanced modern education compatible with the needs of the community and become a key component of the nation’s progress. Over the past four conferences on education organized by the Center, several aspects of education in the UAE have been discussed. Local, Arab and international experts have shed light on its various aspects during these conferences, providing an important academic platform in this domain.
The Fifth Annual Education Conference this year is scheduled to be held from 23-24 September at the ECSSR’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and President of the ECSSR. Entitled Education and Educators: Creating a Culture of Excellence in the Classroom, the conference will address an issue of great importance, namely excellence in UAE schools through the development of all aspects of the educational process in terms of teachers, infrastructure, and curricula.
The choice of subject reflects the ECSSR’s awareness of the fact that this has become the main objective for all sectors engaged in nation’s development. This is part of our leadership’s ambitions to occupy top rankings globally not only in terms of efficiency of institutions but also on the various scales of innovation. Efforts such as these are likely to further the global supremacy the UAE has already achieved at the international level. The World Economic Forum named UAE the 12th most competitive nation globally for the year 2014-2015, registering a rise of seven ranks from last year.
Interest in education and promoting values of excellence and innovation are in sync with the UAE’s objective of building a knowledge-based economy and its ambition to become one of the best countries in the world by its 50th anniversary, based on UAE Vision 2021. This was emphasized by His Excellency Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the ECSSR, in his speech during a Press Conference held on Monday to announce the details of the Fifth Annual Education Conference. His Excellency said that everyone in the UAE is interested in working to turn the country into a knowledge-based society within the next few years.
