Mohamed bin Zayed: Icon of Fraternity and Solidarity
- 30 March 2020
During these difficult times around the world, and in light of the concern for the future of humanity, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces (may God protect him), emerges as an inspiring model for all meanings of fraternity, collaboration, and solidarity. His Highness has always been passionate about contacting Arab and foreign leaders to assure them that the United Arab Emirates remains by the side of its sister countries and friends. In every step he takes, he confirms that he is a true brother and friend of countries and their peoples, that the UAE will always live up to the expectations of standing by all those in need, and that the heart of the UAE will always beat with love for the well-being of all the peoples of the world, regardless of race, language, or religion.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed (may God protect him) is working tirelessly during these difficult times, following up with world leaders regarding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and its implications. The most recent occasion was a telephone call with His Holiness Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church. During the call, they discussed their friendship and cooperation, as well as developments related to the spread of the coronavirus. The also discussed the importance of promoting solidarity and global cooperation in confronting the pandemic and its effects. Sheikh Mohamed and Pope Francis then turned to ways of adopting the principles of the Human Fraternity Document. “I discussed with His Holiness the Pope of the Catholic Church the implementation of the principles of the Human Fraternity Document, as well as the importance of international solidarity in facing Covid-19. We appreciate Pope Francis’ call for world unity and collaboration in these times. The UAE will remain a steadfast source of assistance and peace to all the peoples of the world,” Sheikh Mohamed said on Twitter.
Sheikh Mohamed also had phone conversations with Iraqi President Barham Salih and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, to discuss ways to enhance fraternal relations with both countries, as well as to talk about the latest developments of the coronavirus outbreak, efforts to contain it, and areas of joint collaboration to mitigate its impacts. This shows to what extent His Highness is attentive to regional and global affairs, considering them personal concerns. This comes out of His Highness’ belief that the UAE leadership will not rest until it becomes satisfied with the well-being of brothers and friends, as it is used to doing with UAE citizens and residents. His Highness reiterated UAE’s support for Egypt and its people in combating the coronavirus.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) has embodied all the meanings of fraternity and solidarity, and has shown how a wise leader puts humanity on the top of his list of priorities. The world needs to support countries that are suffering crises and conflicts, especially the most vulnerable to the pandemic outbreak. Days ago, His Highness said “The sisterly Syrian Arab Republic will not stand alone during these trying times.” This reflects how he is committed to the values that were instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God rest his soul in peace), into the hearts and minds of his people, who are now following in his footsteps. His Highness is not standing idly by during these times. He will not rest unless he is assured that the peoples of the world are able to face the dangers posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
His Highness asserted during the G20 Extraordinary Virtual Leaders’ Summit that there are societies that need help and assistance and it is necessary to stand by them and extend assistance to them, especially refugees and internally displaced persons. This confirms his belief in the unity of human destiny and in the importance of concerted international efforts to carry out all the responsibilities that mitigate the negative impacts on nations during this critical time. Sheikh Mohamed’s extensive contacts with the leaders of several countries and his directives to send medical aid to the peoples of Uzbekistan, Serbia, Iran, and other countries confirm that the UAE has a humane leadership that shares in the suffering of other nations.
It is important to continue coordinating efforts to promote the values of solidarity and collaboration with all those who need support in any part of this vast world.
