Moderation: A Consistent Approach
- 16 May 2013
Since the days of Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul), the UAE has made significant efforts to highlight the real values of Islam – an approach being diligently pursued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him). The UAE takes immense interest in cultural and media initiatives and projects that seek to transform the nation into a center of art and culture and a hub for regional and international events. The country takes all the steps necessary and allocates all resources possible in the service of the nation and its citizens so that a pioneering and modern state is built in a cohesive manner.
Moderation has always been adopted consistently by the country at home and abroad. This moderate and rational approach has earned the UAE regional and international recognition and appreciation. The UAE chooses to shun bias and narrow-minded approach in order to build a common ground based on cultural and human understanding. The country’s wise leadership has sworn commitment to international legitimacy, mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. This showcases the UAE as a model of tolerance, dialog and peace against violence, extremism and bigotry.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, during a meeting recently with Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Dr. Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayyeb, affirmed that Islam is a religion based on moderation, tolerance inter-faith coexistence and understanding against extremism and violence. The UAE’s efforts to create inter-culture dialog and respect for other nations’ sensitivities are cases in point. The spirit of coexistence and brotherhood that the UAE embodies has been a significant asset in the nation’s development.
It is this tolerance that has opened the door for scores of people belonging to various race, language, culture and faith to come as expatriate workers and coexist in the UAE within a framework of mutual respect, harmony and appreciation of the individual. Moderation has become a philosophy and a way of life in the UAE where wisdom, respect for others and integration are the guiding principles. This culture has been passed on for generations, which explains the UAE’s success in becoming a modern nation and a favorite destination for world youth in a matter of four decades.
