Major Events in Abu Dhabi

  • 21 April 2010

Abu Dhabi has become a major venue for international events thanks to a pioneering and comprehensive development plan that ensures investment to make it a major hub of economy, technology and culture. The statement made by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and President of ECSSR, during his tour to the Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2010 exhibition, reflected the aspirations of the UAE’s wise leadership with regard to the present and the future roadmap of its economy. He reiterated that Abu Dhabi has the financial capability, a highly skilled workforce, modern infrastructure and a distinguished geographic location which make it a perfect venue for such exhibitions.

The successes of several such events in the past prove that the UAE has adopted the right approach towards making it an international hub for specialized exhibitions in all fields. The key to the success of such exhibitions in Abu Dhabi, and the UAE in general, lies in its ability to attract massive participation from different parts of the world. Such events get a boost from the country’s policy of economic diversification which seeks to minimize reliance on one source of income despite the importance and value of the resource.

Specialized exhibitions have many benefits and they help diversify the sources of income for any given country. Through these exhibitions, investors, businessmen and international companies get introduced to the work environment in the UAE and get familiarized with the huge investment opportunities available in the country. The initiatives that are on offer attract foreign investment, open up new opportunities and consequently boosts the national economy. The growth of exhibitions industry also contributes directly to the development of tourism sector which has been central to the government’s ambitious development plans. This sector is going to play an important role for the economy in the years to come.

There is no doubt that a large turnout at Cityscape compels the world to take notice of the UAE’s economy, its positivity and confidence. This is happening at a time when, figures released by several organizations, suggest that the UAE has managed to maintain economic growth despite the circumstances surrounding global financial crisis and that the UAE succeeded in overcoming the impact of the crisis with minimal loss and in record time. The large presence also reflects the confidence that corporations and international institutions have in the environment of security and stability in the UAE and the organizational abilities of the specialized national workforce that work tirelessly in organizing such exhibitions.

With the successful organization of Cityscape, Abu Dhabi has once again proved that the city is headed in the right direction and that its comprehensive development plan – The Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 – will achieve its objectives consistently despite the problems and challenges that come its way.
