Leading Arab Role of H.H. Sheikha Fatima

Her Highness Mother of the Nation Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairperson of Family Development Foundation and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, is a symbol of boundless compassion not only for the UAE but also for Arab and Middle East regions. Her Highness is known for her strong conviction in the sublime mission of empowering women, children and the youth in addition to other humanitarian causes. Her Highness has a clear and farsighted vision rooted in tradition and drawn from a wide experience in serving the causes of development and peace throughout the world.

The international meeting of experts – Global Trends and Regional Agenda – which will be organized by the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood under Her Highness’ patronage is a step in this direction. The event, which is being organized in collaboration with the United Nations, is dedicated toward making early childhood development plans a top priority on national agendas across the Arab world and to garner international support for policies and programs targeting children in crisis-hit regions of the world.

The meeting indicates Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak’s interest in causes related to the Arab child and her dedication toward improving their condition. Studies show that women and children are the worst hit in conflicts, crises and wars. The role played by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, particularly for the children of Syria, has been highly recognized and appreciated regionally and globally. Her initiatives have invited global attention to the impact of the crisis on children in Syria. Her Highness has also generously donated a sum of $10 million for these children.

Her Highness Sheikha Fatima’s support for women and children occupies a pride of place in her record of achievements. She played a leading role in establishing the Arab Women Organization in 2003 and served as its chairperson between 2007 and 2009, which gave the Council a considerable boost. Her Highness is of a firm belief that no real development in the Arab world is possible without due attention to children and women and has worked extremely hard to raise public awareness on these issues. Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak is an outstanding role model not only for the UAE but also for Arab women and is seen by the world as their voice on the international stage.
