Investing in the Development of Human Mind
- 29 January 2014
The UAE firmly believes that the best strategy is to invest in human resource and that excellence can only be achieved if citizens become creative across all fields. We live in a world today that follows completely different yardsticks for progress where knowledge has become a nation’s ultimate wealth and a pre-requisite for excellence. This explains the statement made by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, during his meeting with a number of elite Emirati inventors recently.
“President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) believes that investing the minds of scientists is what builds nations. This is the driving force behind economic, social, cultural and educational development as these cadres are the ones who preserve the UAE’s national achievements and develop them for future generations,” His Highness said. He emphasized that the UAE can achieve comprehensive development through the efforts of creative Emiratis who equip themselves with science and knowledge and are dedicated to their nation.
Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul) believed that the best investment is to build an educated generation, which has been the main motive behind the UAE’s comprehensive development plans. These plans are based on the vision that a secure and advanced nation is built by individuals who are equipped with scientific knowledge and are capable of engaging with the advancements taking place around the world.
This explains the attention that the UAE government gives to education and its willingness to encourage innovation at leading educational and scientific institutions throughout the world. The government extends all possible support to academic research with particular emphasis on technology. The Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC), which was formed in 2009 with the intent of encouraging and supporting science, technology and innovation in Abu Dhabi, is a case in point. The decision was based on the UAE wise leadership’s firm belief that a knowledge-based society can be developed by maximizing this process.
This has also been outlined by the UAE National Agenda launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Vice-President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, recently. It provides that all UAE school and university students be equipped with smart devices and that all public schools and curricula should be transformed into smart learning. All this is being done for one ultimate objective, which is achieving the UAE Vision 2021, making it one of the best nations in the world when it celebrates 50th anniversary.
