  • 21 March 2015

While Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul), was bestowed with the title ‘the wise man of the Arabs’, his companion who has earned the same respect from Arab, Islamic and humanitarian spheres is Her Highness Mother of the Nation Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Nahyan – Chairwoman of General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairperson of Family Development Foundation and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood – who has been bestowed with the title ‘Mother of Arabs’ by the Arab League. The honor results from the fact that the UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), has been working for human welfare for decades not only in the Arab and Muslim worlds but the whole of humanity.

The honoring of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak is not an isolated development but is the result of sublime spirit that Almighty Allah has instilled in her, which makes her the most generous human being not only as the ‘Mother of the Nation’ but of all Arabs. In her speech on the occasion, Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Development and International Cooperation, said that this honor confirms that there are names that are bound to shine bright and that the act of giving ushers in love and care for the whole of humanity.

Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak has been the real supporter of the role of Arab women and the ‘Mother of the Nation’ being given the title ‘Mother of Arabs’ is a matter of pride for the UAE and the entire Arab world. Moreover, the conferring of this badge of honor to Her Highness by the Secretariat General of the Arab Producers’ Union is in recognition of her immense efforts in the service of civil society and her leading role in supporting everything related to helping the mankind and implementing humanitarian initiatives globally.

The honor is another feather in her cap and is evidence of her generous humanitarian efforts and unparalleled keenness to work for freedom, dignity and rights of women around the world. She is an embodiment of the principles and values associated with Arab and Islamic culture and the noble humanitarian message she inherited from the companion of her life, the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul) who once said: “I am sure that Arab woman in our rising nation recognize the importance of maintaining our authentic habits derived from the teachings of true Islam… they are the basis of the progress of the family… and family is the basis of the progress of the entire society.”

The role of women has been reinforced and strengthened in the UAE by way of legislation and cultural affiliations during the phase of empowerment led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), who has always been keen to empower women in all fields so that they become active partners in the nation building process. His Highness once said: “Since its inception, on the 2nd December, 1971, the UAE has focused on the advancement and empowerment of women; to enable them to play their natural role as an active participant at national, regional, Arab, international and human levels.”
