Historical Ties and Broad Prospects

  • 10 February 2016

The three-day visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of theUAE Armed Forces, (may God protect him) to India, started today Wednesday, at a context marked by the openness of the UAE towards emerging world powers. The visit also reflects the UAE’s steady endeavors to diversify its relations and consolidate its influential position at the international level, in line with the comprehensive development efforts in the country, which puts the Emirati citizen at the core of its interests.

The visit represents a new phase in the UAE-Indian relations, in light of the willingness of the two countries to develop these relations, and further develop them in all areas. This visithas great significance, given the ongoing global developments, challenges, crises and risks. In such a context, the UAE is keen to boost ties with friendly countries in order to prepare for a better future, and safeguard national development achievements.

The UAE and India share same views regarding many regional and global issues. The two countries have a common willingness to unlock their economic and strategic potentials in order to overcome all challenges, crises and risks. This was evidenced during the recent visit of India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to the UAE in August which represents a milestone in bilateral relations. Today, the current visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to India, falls within the framework of consolidating these principles and foundations, and adding a new momentum to bilateral relations between the UAE and Indian in all fields.

The tremendous potential of United Arab Emirates, and India, as well as the large accumulated developmental experiences in both countries, offer various cooperation opportunities, especially in areas relating to digital economy, sustainable development, environmental protection, and human resources development. These areas of cooperation top the development priorities in the UAE which seeks to consolidate its choice of a sustainable knowledge-based national economy in which citizens contribute prominently.

There is no doubt that the typical historical legacy of UAE-India relations represents a motivating factor towards further improving these relations and developing them in the future. Looking towards India andstrengthening relations with it is one of the UAE’s foreign policy priorities since the reign of the late, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, (may God rest his soul). The willingness of the wise leadership represented by His Highness President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, (may God save him), and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, (may God protect him) and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme commander of the UAE armed forces, (may God protect him) to strengthen ties with India is part of an endeavor to boost relations with emerging powers.
