Flag Day and National Cohesion

  • 3 November 2015

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) today celebrates an event, which is at the heart of every citizen. The Flag Day marks the day on which President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) took the reins of power and embarked on a march towards comprehensive and sustainable development. Unfurling the UAE flag at homes and offices together, at 12 noon today, has become an expression of national cohesion, the values that connect various segments of the society and the feelings of loyalty and allegiance to the homeland.

This relationship has presented a glorious image of Emiratis, individuals, institutions, government and leadership and has raised the UAE’s flag high. It demonstrates a sense of belonging to the homeland, which provides decent living for citizens, fulfills their aspirations, and takes care of them at home and abroad. This is what earns respect for any country around the world. This also shows the pride of this flag under which all these accomplishments have been made. It is the symbol that unites them as one focused on one goal for which they are ready to sacrifice their lives.

While Emirati citizens express their allegiance to the homeland and hoist the flag on this occasion, through such a response they express their loyalty to the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), and his brothers, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai (may God protect him), and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, (may God protect him), and the Rulers of Emirates. They express loyalty to the wise leadership that has made the UAE flag a symbol of pride in the eyes of its citizens and for people in the region and the world.

This national cohesion has undoubtedly made the UAE a model country. It empowers the country to move forward on the road to progress on all development indicators and counter all challenges. This has helped the country overcome grave challenges such as terrorism and extremism that threaten their stability. The UAE, owing to the close and strong relations among its individuals, has become an oasis of security and stability in a region full of instability. This will without doubt remain a factor that motivates the UAE to keep its society coherent under the flag and ensure comprehensive development, making it stand among the most advanced societies.
