Exceptional Leadership Defines Future of the UAE

  • 12 February 2014

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai – while attending the plenary session of the Government Summit 2014 held in Dubai on Monday – said: “We need to reach out to people before they reach us. We want to save time, shorten distances, increase effectiveness and make services more easily accessible.” This brief, yet very eloquent, statement summarizes the UAE government’s philosophy of development, both during the ‘Foundation Phase’ led by Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul) or during the ‘Empowerment Phase’ under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him).

The UAE’s philosophy in this regard is based on four major principles. First of all, it seeks to fulfill public expectations and ambitions ahead of time, embraces the transformation taking place around the world and addresses the demands or shortages that could have adverse effect on community development in the long run. Second. All the channels of communication between government officials and public are kept open, which highlights the fact that public satisfaction is the ultimate goal for the government.

Third. The UAE uses tomorrow’s benchmarks to provide government services today and seeks to build a model community. The ‘Dubai Government 2021 Initiative’, launched during a special session on the sideline of the Summit by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council – aims to shift from the current concept of ‘speed’ in delivering service to ‘immediate service’ by the year 2021, through the employment of technology. This is an example of what government services should be like in the future. The initiative has set a new benchmark for the UAE government.

Fourth. The Government’s use of latest technology for public services is for one single objective, which is to provide effective, easy and good quality services for the sake of public satisfaction and fulfilling the ultimate goal of development. A leadership in pursuit of these goals and committed to the philosophy of the UAE’s wise leadership, has to be exceptional. “The UAE has had exceptional leaders,” His Highness Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said in his speech at the inaugural session of the Government Summit.

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, are exceptional leaders. They have shown the determination, taken major initiatives, have demonstrated clarity of vision and in-depth outlook that come with sincerity, compassion love and loyalty for the UAE, His Highness said.
