Emirati Citizens Focus of the UAE’s National Agenda
- 30 April 2015
The philosophy of governance and development in the UAE is based primarily on a constructive engagement between the wise leadership and the people and efforts to achieve their wellbeing, happiness and standard of living. This is the objective behind the policies being pursued by the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him). These policies are aimed at meeting the growing needs and aspirations of community members, providing everything that would improve their living standards and secure their economic and social well-being.
While reviewing the progress of the UAE National Agenda – which was launched last year and will continue up to 2021 – His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai (may God protect him), reiterated this principle. “We want the best life, most dignified living standards, best housing, best education and best healthcare services for our people. We have six years to fulfill our ambition and the vision that we drew up,” His Highness said. He emphasized that the achievements made under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him) through hundreds of federal and local teams, have earned exceptional place for the UAE in the region and the world. This has provided outstanding living standards for the Emiratis and has laid down a solid foundation for our future generations.
The detailed progress report on the UAE National Agenda included many positive indicators. It reveals the success achieved by development plans and investments meant for UAE citizens. The UAE was ranked happiest Arab country in the UN World Happiness Index in 2015, for the third consecutive year. On the sense of security index, it reached 92 percent in 2014. According to the World Bank estimates, its GDP per capita increased from $56,000 to $59,000 during the last two years. The UAE has also achieved higher regional and international ranks on several other indices. These rankings suggest that the UAE is on the right track, marching confidently toward achieving its objectives and has been able to strengthen its place among advanced economies until it achieves the goal of the ‘UAE Vision 2021’ and become one of the best countries in the world by the 50th anniversary of its establishment.
The most important feature of the UAE National Agenda is that it includes specific targets that could be measured. This has been one of the aspects that distinguish the UAE experience, which is vision-driven and has clear implementation mechanisms, aimed at making the people of the UAE the happiest, most satisfied and prosperous in the Arab region and the world. The UAE’s wise leadership makes the wellbeing and happiness of its people the top priority and formulates policies that safeguard the coming generations. As a result, the Emirati people are proud of their leadership and do everything possible to enhance the country’s position. This also explains the stability that prevails in the UAE and why it has become an oasis of safety and security for many around the world who aspire to live here.
