Emarat Al Youm: Human Life Is Our Top Priority
- 30 March 2020
The UAE pays considerable and extensive attention to human wellbeing, and this is nothing new. Man has been at the heart of UAE leadership since the founding of the nation on December 2, 1971, by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God rest his soul in peace). Sheikh Zayed believed that human capital is the most important wealth any society can possess, and that Man is the cornerstone of development.
One fundamental way the UAE invests in its human capital is through the provision of quality health services. Well-equipped and accessible hospitals are found all over the nation and are within reach of every citizen. These health facilities have attracted thousands of experienced medical personnel from abroad, and at the same time the UAE pays great attention to the training of national medical staff, many of whom are graduates of the world’s top-ranked universities. The UAE also provides health insurance services to citizens, residents, and visitors.
Under the difficult circumstances that the world is currently experiencing due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the UAE is making great efforts to ensure the safety of all citizens and expatriates and to provide the best quality healthcare. These efforts began at an early stage to ensure the prevention of the spread of the virus. This is especially important, as the UAE is one of the most international countries in the world, with its residents representing over 200 nationalities. The UAE has managed to contain the epidemic through an integrated system of precautionary measures, which are constantly evolving to increase preparedness against this deadly virus.
In this context, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi (may God protect him), inaugurated on Saturday a drive-through COVID-19 testing center at Zayed Sports City, open to all community members. This initiative was launched by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH). Sheikh Mohamed affirmed that the UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE (may God protect him), attaches paramount importance to human wellbeing, and sets public safety and health at the top of its priorities. His Highness added that the UAE will continue taking all precautionary measures, procedures, and proactive initiatives that ensure the safety and wellbeing of the nation’s citizens, residents, and visitors. Sheikh Mohamed commended the efforts of the medical and nursing teams and all those belonging to the health sector, the country’s first line of defense against the coronavirus.
The establishment of the drive-through testing center will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of testing for COVID-19. Tests take around 5 minutes, and the facility is able to provide services to around 600 people daily, from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Priority is given to people who display symptoms of COVID-19, those who suffer from chronic diseases, senior citizens, and pregnant women. The testing center is an important addition to the UAE’s response to the epidemic and its efforts to ensure the nation’s social and economic security in the face of this global challenge.
