Education as the Driver of Renaissance and Progress

The statements given by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, during a visit to Khalifa University on Monday reflect the ambitious plans the UAE has to make education the driving force for development. His Highness affirmed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), is giving a lot of attention to education as a cornerstone of progress. H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan laid special emphasis on three major issues that reflect the UAE’s rationale for promoting education:

The UAE government takes keen interest in providing modern and quality education. His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed said that the sign of progress does not lie in its quantitative aspect but in its qualitative and advanced form. He also explained to what extent academic research and studies can contribute to national development and promotion of local culture. Education is visualized by the UAE as a means of progress at all levels – one whose output is commensurate with demands of the labor market and socio-economic growth requirements.

Good education is also a means for enhancing the human potential of nationals. Addressing the youth, His Highness said that “Our ultimate investment is in your intelligence – which we can count on to lead in science and technology.” His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed highlighted education as a means to develop UAE’s human capital. The more qualified an individual the more capable he or she would be to contribute to national progress. Investment in upgraded education is an investment in the individual, who is the ultimate asset and source of pushing development toward the ‘UAE Vision 2021.’

His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted the “need to develop an advanced scientific and technological platform able to match modern advancements.” This is highly important as education is a vehicle for catching up with modern science and technology on which technological competitiveness depends. His Highness expressed his satisfaction with the work of several scientific labs of the Khalifa University, which is a landmark for higher education.

Higher and advanced education is a top priority for the UAE’s wise leadership which spares no effort in providing the necessary resources, such as infrastructure, human and financial resources, scientific research etc. in order to ensure a world-class educational process. Modern education serves as a strong bridge to the future, capable of placing the UAE on equal footing with countries of the world.
