Development Based on Education

  • 24 September 2014

Comprehensive development is not possible without contemporary and advanced education. The UAE has always believed in this fact and has pursued it under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him). This is also the main reason why the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) has been organizing an annual conference on education since 2010. This was stated on the opening day of the fifth Annual Education Conference – Education and Educators: Creating a Culture of Excellence in the Classroom – which opened yesterday and will continue today.

A speech delivered on behalf of His Excellency Eng. Hussein Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Minister of Education, referred to the pivotal role played by education in the process of sustainable development. It highlighted the fact that teachers are at the forefront of development and that the UAE’s wise leadership looks at education as one of the main priorities. The leadership is keen to ensure that the process of education keeps up with the all-inclusive and sustainable development being experienced by the UAE.

Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, First Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council, Member of the Executive Council and Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council, emphasized the same point during the conference. She referred to the several ways in which education is linked to development. The UAE’s journey in modern education coincides with its development since the days of Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul). This process is being pursued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who view education as the main foundation for a knowledge-based economy.

The main objective of the educational process in the UAE is to build generations capable of building knowledge instead of just consuming it. Educated people are the foundation on which the developmental structure of the UAE has been built. In his speech during the conference, H.E. Dr. Jamal Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the ECSSR, pointed to the core of a nation’s experiences, which help achieve excellence and development all over the world. He said that a nation can achieve progress only by adopting practical means and by formulating vision and strategies for the present and the future.

‘Education and Educators: Creating a Culture of Excellence in the Classroom’ is an important platform to discuss questions and issues related to education in the UAE. The Annual Education Conference is bringing up for discussion topics that are of interest to experts and specialists. This is an important yearly event that deals with the subject of education, which is not only relevant to the country but also at regional and international ones.
