Culture of Honor and Nation-Building

  • 16 November 2015

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai (may God protect him), honored 44 distinguished personalities during the UAE Pioneers Award 2015 event organised in Dubai as part of the 44th National Day celebrations. It bears several connotations that emphasize our leadership’s keenness to honor its people in various fields, as well as to commemorate their names and make their work prominent. Likewise, it reflects the keenness of the UAE to honor its people and that of the leadership to be close to the citizens and observe their work and effort in serving their homeland. It also shows appreciation for their hard work and encourages them to continue and to exert untiring effort, by making their efforts significant and prominent, and thereby commemorating the names of their doers in the history of the UAE.

Honoring Emirati pioneers in all fields is not new to the leadership, which has exerted its efforts to raise the standard of its citizens since the establishment of the country. Since the foundation of the state by the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul), and throughout the tenure of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces (may God protect them), as well as their brethren, the rulers of the emirates, they have all strived to implant the culture of honor, an approach taken by the wise leadership to honor the efforts exerted by citizens who work to serve their homeland. The leadership honoring citizens is important in ensuring they continue to exert more efforts to develop the country. Likewise, the leadership has adopted the concept of honoring human beings and boosting their capacity to give and to sacrifice.

The keenness of the UAE leadership to honor its peoples rests on a serious aspiration to a great goal, namely, to place the country in top position amongst the developed countries. In fact, the leadership is fully aware that the human being serves as an effective tool of progress and development, promoting the country’s position amongst the world’s countries due to his potential and capacities, which must be invested in and motivated. Additionally, the honor is clear evidence that the UAE is moving steadfastly toward further achievements, for the wise leadership believes that the state’s progress is not an easy task. Rather, it is a long and hard path which demands that the citizen be able to sacrifice everything and continue toiling, without tiredness or boredom.

The UAE strives to record its nationals’ achievements in history, acknowledging the importance of their efforts and achievements. The launch of The UAE Pioneers comes within this context. The book contains the names and achievements of the honored, with the aim of making their works and personalities prominent so that they might become motivators and role models for forthcoming generations.

When the UAE honors its pioneers in various realms, it implants a crucial principle based on the concept of the state’s preoccupation with the “top rank” and its keenness on entering new, undiscovered fields. The “top rank” is cherished only by those who strive toward progress and development.
