Concerted Efforts for the Nation
- 9 November 2010
The UAE presents an exemplary model of development built on two main pillars. The first pillar is the prudent vision of the wise leadership and its conformity to the ambitions and aspirations of the people. The second pillar is the concerted efforts being made by all the emirates and their citizens to continuously take the country forward and extend its achievements in all the fields. This stems from the mutual feeling of all citizens across the emirates that the fruits of development should reach every individual and that prosperity in one part of the federation should benefit those in other parts. In this context, the meeting between His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and President of ECSSR, on Sunday unfolded several important issues related to the vision of development of the country that everyone believes in and works accordingly.
Firstly, despite the huge achievements made during the era of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his vision and support, it is not a reason for contentment or satisfaction with what has already been achieved and should instead be a motive for more efforts. During their meeting they emphasized that it should be the responsibility of all citizens to seek what the beloved country expects them to achieve in order for the UAE to maintain a high level of prosperity and progress. The underlying message to all citizens is that maintaining this unprecedented progress for the country needs maximum efforts. If achieving today’s level of progress was difficult, then maintaining this success is going to be more difficult.
During the meeting Their Highnesses affirmed that the UAE’s position in the world is linked to its major accomplishments which have earned the country a fine reputation and given it a prestigious position at regional and international levels. The underlying message here is that the regional and international reputation for a country is not built from nowhere and is based on solid pillars whose foundations are development. Also important is the ability to positively integrate with the global community because only this can build influence and help play a role. Thirdly, if progress is the source of respect at a world stage then the basis for development is the vision that is built internally. Since its inception, unity has been the source of the UAE’s strength, it has given impetus to the country’s growth story and will Insha’allah continue to do so.
