Cohesion between Leadership and People is the Source of Stability

Speaking on the subject of national security at the National Defense Academy (NDA) in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, His Highness Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, highlighted the cohesion that exists between the UAE’s wise leadership and its people. His Highness referred to this cohesion as the main source of stability, security and welfare under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him).

The extraordinary level of interaction between the country’s wise leadership and its people has been the main feature of the UAE since it was established in 1971. This has been the greatest shield protecting the federation for decades and has been a solid foundation, which has helped the country make miraculous accomplishments across the various spheres of development.

Since the days of Founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God bless his soul), the UAE’s wise leadership has been keen to maintain close contact with the citizens. They have kept the doors open for inputs and interaction in the spirit of democracy and philosophy on which these goals are based. The model established by our wise leadership vis-à-vis relationship with its popular base has kept the UAE’s society intact, secure and stable.

This has also guarded against extremism irrespective of the suspicious and malicious designs that are alien to our beliefs and values. The UAE is marching ahead with a firm belief in the integrity and strength of the country’s socio-political structure. It is convinced that any attempt to foment sedition will be foiled by citizens who are loyal to the leadership and to the values of moderation. The UAE’s wise leadership embodies these values through words and deeds.

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani highlighted this fact recently when he referred to tolerance, harmony and moderation as the main features of the communities across the GCC and most notably the UAE. Al Zayani maintained that this has helped the country safeguard its achievements.

The UAE has a clear vision of national security where the Emirati is the agent and beneficiary of development and a partner who tops the wise leadership’s list of priorities, policies and vision of development. This is also consistent with the phase of empowerment launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2005. The focus during this phase is to create an environment based on innovation and maximize the citizens’ contribution to socio-political life in the country.
