His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai – while attending a ‘Government Creativity Lab’ session organized by the Ministry of Health in Dubai recently – stressed that “public health remains a top priority”. His Highness also used his personal Instagram account to state that our health sector receives “full support of my brother President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God bless him) who urges us to redouble our efforts to improve the health sector and pay more attention to public health, since it is linked to public happiness.” Top priority is given to the health of Emirati citizens who are entitled to receive medical treatment so that they enjoy good health and better life.

His Highness has issued directives to the public and private sectors to make their utmost effort to further improve health sector and services, and establish a system that provides the best possible treatment so that citizens of the UAE lead a good life and the quality of life is improved. These statements indicate that health sector gets top priority in the UAE’s development plan, and that expectation among inhabitants of the UAE, and even tourists, regarding health standards are heeded by the UAE’s wise leadership, which leaves no stone unturned in raising health standards. This is evident in the generous investments being made in the local health sector, which has increased the healthcare per capita share to $1,520 per year. This has put the country among top 20 nations in terms of healthcare expenditure.

Life expectancy in the UAE rose to 76.7 years in 2013 according to the United Nations Development Program Human Development Survey. These surveys offer conclusive evidence of the high quality of healthcare services in the country. Attention to healthcare sector in the UAE forms part of the broader spectrum of public services, directly related to daily life, including education, labor, culture, youth, community development, housing and social affairs which account for 50 percent of the state’s federal budget. This is in addition to investments in local governments across the UAE. The immense progress made by the healthcare sector is part of comprehensive development in the UAE, which has become one of the most favored destinations to live, work and invest. This is where people are among the happiest in the world, as per international indices on happiness and satisfaction.
