Balanced and Developed Foreign Relations
- 23 October 2014
His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, during his discussions with Italian Premier recently, reiterated the objectives and principles of the UAE’s foreign policy as applied to its relations with nations around the world. His Highness asserted that the UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God protect him), prioritizes its foreign policy based on balanced and developed relations with friendly countries, on mutual respect, friendship and positive contribution toward development and cultural progress.
These principles have earned respect and appreciation for the UAE and its leadership at both regional and international arenas, making it a major destination for world leaders who visit the Gulf or the Middle East region. These countries benefit from the UAE’s views and perspectives on the developments taking place in the region and ways to resolve crises. The visits of UAE officials to different countries are also a source of interest to both political and media circles. Moreover, it boosts the role of foreign policy in supporting internal development by establishing crucial partnerships with various nations based on common interests.
The trend of nations seeking strong relations with the UAE and looking to get its views on major developments in the Middle East, particularly the war against terrorism, has grown in recent times. The UAE is viewed as a country which takes clear position against terrorism, violence and extremism as well as forces that support these elements. The country has taken numerous initiatives to tackle extremist ideologies and has shown promptness to participate in any endeavor in this regard, no matter where they come from. This is consistent with its belief that extremism poses the greatest threat to world security and stability. It undermines human civilization and peoples’ need for progress and development.
The entire world looks at the UAE as an important player ensuring regional stability due to its civilized approach aimed at combating terrorism and its immense efforts to enhance the values of tolerance, moderation and acceptance of the ‘other’. Additionally, the UAE presents a good example as a land where people of various creed, culture and ethnicity live. This is completely contradictory to the aim of extremist forces who are only interested in spreading fanaticism and terrorism.
