Armed Forces: Shield of the Country
- 29 December 2010
While attending the 40th graduation ceremony of cadet pilot officers, the seventh batch of air faculty cadet officers and the second batch of female cadet pilots at the Khalifa bin Zayed Air College headquarters in Al Ain on Monday, His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and President of ECSSR, hailed the pivotal position of the armed forces in the development vision of the UAE’s wise leadership. His Highness pointed out that the evidence of this can be found in the fact that the UAE, under the leadership of the President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, always strives to develop and modernize its armed forces, supplying them with the most advanced and suitable weapons to create a protective shield for the nation and a vigilant eye to its borders and security.
The wise leadership is keen to keep our armed forces abreast of the qualitative and technical advancements taking place in the military and wants to further diversify them to ensure that the modernization is appropriate and matches the needs of the country’s strategic defense. The attention being paid by the UAE to all the branches of the Armed Forces is built on the same conviction that forms the core of the leadership’s vision and its role. The first of these convictions is that the Armed Forces is the most prestigious institution in the country and a place where values of patriotism, loyalty, sense of belonging and identity for the UAE gets furthered accentuated. It reinforces the meaning of sacrifice to protect the nation and maintain sovereignty over its territories, destiny and wealth.
The second contention is that the country’s progress and development cannot succeed without strong armed forces that protect the nation’s achievements and entrenches the feeling of security and strength in the face of external threats, wherever they come from. It is necessary that each phase of the country’s development gets adequate support that allows its wheels to roll without any fear or threat from across borders. Thirdly, since weakness encourages aggression, strong Armed Forces become a deterrent to any foreign threat. There is also the belief that the UAE military is focused on defense and contributes to peace and stability in the region and the rest of the world.
There is another conviction that a country with a strong military power successfully preserves its sovereignty, protects its boundaries and deters aggression. This leaves a positive psychological impact on its people and gives them confidence in the nation’s capabilities. The UAE, with its strong and capable Armed Forces presents a picture of security and stability in the region as it always employs these forces to serve the cause of peace and does not seek anything from modernization but security of its people. It wants to protect its progress and achievements and its ambitions for a better tomorrow.
