Ramadan Strategic Dialogue: Second Session

  • 22 July 2013

As part of the intellectual and cultural activities organized on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan, The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research held the second session of the Ramadan Strategic Dialogue on Monday, July 22, 2013, under the title: ‘The National Role of Women: Belonging and Allegiance,’ delivered by Dr. Suad Al-Araimi, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, UAE University.

The lecture began by defining the sense of belonging and loyalty. It then addressed the role of women in promoting the sense of belonging and instilling loyalty. When we refer to the role of women in raising members of the community we focus on the role of mothers, who are entrusted with the child's upbringing. She noted that membership of community is developed automatically, but it is strengthened with efforts of the mother, who is the most principal parent to inculcate the sense of belongingness, the family and the community and the nation. Given that sense of belonging to the homeland is the pivot around which other affiliations revolve, there needs to be a clear vision and not unplanned approach. She pointed out that it is this sense of belonging to the homeland that engenders loyalty and patriotism.
