Ms. Nora Mohammed Al Shemmari is a researcher and author specialized in sports law. Currently, she is Legal Advisor to the UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in public law, and a Professional Master in sports law. She worked for more than eleven years in legal and sports affairs at various public entities in the UAE, and was a member of the committee, formed by the General Authority for Sports, to prepare a framework for sports law in the UAE.
Her publications include Jiu Jitsu from Abu Dhabi to the World, which discusses Jiu Jitsu and introduces the UAE experience in embracing and promoting the discipline, and The UAE Jiu Jitsu, which discusses the discipline’s technical elements, as well as its moral and psychological aspects, as complementary features in preparing professional practitioners. The book documents real stories of athletes and people of determination whose lives have changed thanks to Jiu Jitsu.
The lecturer’s connection to Jiu Jitsu is also seen in the success story of her half-brother Omar Al Fadhli, member of the UAE Jiu Jitsu national team and world champion in his category. Ms. Al Shemmari recounts her half-brother’s successful story in her first book, and having witnessed the considerable impact Jiu Jitsu has had on him, decided to focus on scientifically studying the discipline. Ms. Al Shemmari aims to raise awareness of Jiu Jitsu’s benefits among UAE society, as she believes in its positive contribution to shaping individual character.
