Deputy Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research
H.E. Minister Prof. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi is an Emirati thinker, writer, strategic expert, . His Excellency had been the Director General of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) from 1994 till 2020. His Excellency has chaired and served as a member of several prestigious advisory, scholarly and executive boards. He has authored, prepared and edited numerous scholarly books, including preparing The Yemeni War of 1994: Causes and Consequences and editing Iran and the Gulf: A Search for Stability. He was also a contributing author to The Gulf Cooperation Council: Prospects for the Twenty-first Century and wrote a chapter titled “A Future Perspective” for The UAE Society. Furthermore, he has published several books including, From Tribe to Facebook: The Transformational Role of Social Networks (2013); Prospects for the American Age: Sovereignty and Influence in the New World Order (2014); co-edited Islamic Political Movements and Authority in the Arab World: The Rise and Fall (2014); The Mirage (2015), which was awarded the Sheikh Zayed Book Award in 2016 and translated into several languages; Eternal Imprints: Figures that Made History and Others that Changed the Future of their Countries (2016); and, The Triumph of the Will: The Journey of My Experience (2017). Meanwhile, in 2018, he published United Arab Emirates Society in the Twenty-first Century: Issues and Challenges in a Changing World, in 2019, he published Women and Development.
In addition to the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, His Excellency has received many regional and international awards and accolades in appreciation of his scholarly contributions including, the Naguib Mahfouz Award for Literature on April 8, 2016. On March 21, 2017, the Universal Peace Federation awarded him the title of Ambassador for Peace, in recognition of his great efforts to promote a culture of tolerance and moderation.
H.E. Minister Prof. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi received his Bachelor’s in Political Science from Kuwait University in 1981, and his Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, US, in 1985 and 1990, respectively. On January 3, 2017, the University of L.U.de.S. University, Lugano in Switzerland granted him a Professorship in Political Science and Literature.
