International Zayed Charity Marathon 2015
- 18 December 2015
The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) will participate in the International Zayed Charity Marathon 2015 which will be organized for the second consecutive year in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Friday December 18, 2015. This year’s edition will be dedicated to supporting children with cancer and hepatitis patients.
The ECSSR participates following directives from its Director General H.E. Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi to contribute to the success of the Marathon both at the Arab and international level. This initiative is reflective of the lofty humanitarian engagement of the UAE. The Marathon has been launched since 2005 as a charity in memory of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan- may God bless his soul. It was launched in implementation of directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, President of the ECSSR- may God protect him.
Through its participation in the Marathon that highlights the soft power of the UAE and showcases its culture and heritage, the ECSSR also aspires to promote its image as a research institution with a leading role at the Arab cultural scene. In this regards, the Center will exhibit an array of its main publications, on top of which “With United Strength: Shaikh Zayid Bin Sultan Al Nahyan” which has become a key reference on the history of the founding of the United Arab Emirates. The book sheds light on the linchpin role played by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan- may God bless his soul- as well as the political approach that the late Sheikh adopted. It also delves deep into the colossal achievements that were carried out in a comparatively short period under the leadership of the late Sheikh which earned him a special status among exceptional historical leaders who made the glory of their countries.
“The Mirage” by H.E. Dr. Jamal Sanad Al Suwaidi, Director General of the ECSSR will also be exhibited. The book discusses issues relating to political religious groups and debunks the political mirage sold by such groups in the Arab and Muslim worlds. “The Mirage” sounds the alarm bell regarding the repercussions of the illusory slogans propagated by political religious groups and calls for restoring the role of the intellect in addition to advocating genuine precepts of Islam.
Generally, the participation of the ECSSR in the International Zayed Charity Marathon 2015 aims at raising awareness about the dangers of illnesses and pandemics in Arab societies. This lofty initiative also aims at sensitizing about the importance of sports to gain a healthy way of life that is conducive to fighting illnesses. Besides, the Marathon sets the objective of reinforcing the brotherly and time-honoured ties between the UAE and Egypt, especially after the success of last year’s edition in Cairo.
