International Seminar on Policy to Fight Drug Abuse

  • 3 January 2011

In the first week of January 2011, the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research hosted the first MENA regional seminar of the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC), organized by the National Rehabilitation Center. The IDPC is one of the leading global institutions in policy making to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse. It constructively engages government institutions with non-government organizations in this field.

The seminar, which spanned over seven sessions and two days, deliberated on a number of important issues such as: the challenges facing drug policy making and ways of tackling them in the Middle East and North Africa region. It discussed the prevention, treatment, and mitigation of issues related to drug abuse. It also raised matters of legislation and legal frameworks, discussed proposals for building networks for regional cooperation, and made final recommendations.
