‘Indian labour hugely impacts family status back home’

  • 6 December 2012

A study prepared by the Centre for Global Development (CGD) in the United States of America shows the temporary contractual Indian workers in the UAE have remarkable impact on the living conditions of their families in India.

This was revealed during a seminar held recently at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in collaboration between the Ministry of Labour and the Centre.

The seminar discussed the findings of the study, which aims to measure the developmental impact of the Indian workers in the UAE on the living conditions of their families at home.

Labour Minister Saqr Ghobash said that the international dialogue on the subject of “migration work” widened in recent years to include models of temporary migration such as immigration for the purpose of working on temporary contracts in the GCC.
