  • 29 May 2012

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies & Research (ECSSR) hosted a forum on 'Integrating the Efforts of Social Research Institutions to Support the Decision Making Process in the United Arab Emirates,' on May 29-30. The forum was organized by the National and Social Cohesion Strengthening Initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, the National Research Foundation and the ECSSR.

The objectives of the forum were to promote the concept of integrating the social research efforts in the UAE, to shed light on existing efforts to build research databases in the country, as well as to determine the best mechanisms to benefit from research findings to support decision-makers. The forum also sought to reach a wide agreement on the social research agenda.

The forum discussed four main issues, the first of which pertained to the challenges facing the integration of efforts of social research institutions in the UAE. The second issue pertained to identifying national priorities for scientific research in social studies to serve the goals of the UAE Strategic Plan and Vision 2012. The third issue covered the use of modern technologies to serve researchers and research institutions working in the field of social research (building integrated database for social studies research, social networks of researchers, e-learning and e-training). The last issue taken up pertained to the use of the latest and best mechanisms for ensuring greater communication and integration among institutions concerned with social research in the UAE and to deliver outputs to decision makers.

The event was held at Sheikh Zayid bin Sultan Al Nahyan Hall, ECSSR Building, Abu Dhabi.
