The UAE plays a prominent role in the United Nations and broader multilateral system. Whether as a champion of gender equality and climate action, or as one of the most generous donors relative to gross national income, the UAE is recognized by Member States for its progressive values and global partnerships in a region mired by challenges. Next year, as the country celebrates its Golden Jubilee, the UAE is running for a two-year seat at the UN Security Council - a once-in-a-generation opportunity to contribute to international peace and security. Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, the Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN, discusses the UAE’s agenda for the UN Security Council, its leadership on gender equality issues at the UN, and its humanitarian efforts to support the global response to COVID-19.
