As part of the lecture series held to mark the 25th year
of the Federation, the speaker pointed out that the
prevailing regional variables in the Gulf and the Middle
East have created three kinds of challenges facing the
UAE. The first deals with issue of security in the Gulf,
of which regional security is at the forefront. The second
challenge revolves around the development of the Middle
East peace process and its subsequent implications. The
last challenge deals with the cooperation among the
AGCC member states and the need to further deepen
the existing level of cooperation.
He went on to clarify what is meant by each
challenge when used in its proper context, driving
the definition away from its negative connotation and
stating that facing a challenge represents the attempt
to secure a country’s interest and fulfill its objectives
through the negotiation of a reasonable solution
acceptable to all parties involved.
