Today’s lecture, titled ‘The UAE’s Global Response to COVID-19’, coincides with World Humanitarian Day, which is marked on August 19 each year. The lecture highlights the leading role the UAE plays in the humanitarian arena as a top donor country, according to the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The lecture considers the most important factors in the UAE’s successful response to COVID-19, which was based on an approach established decades ago by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God rest his soul in peace). The UAE’s commitment to mitigate the effects of the pandemic in brotherly and friendly countries, alleviating the suffering of their people, has seen the wise leadership follow in the footsteps of Sheikh Zayed. Finally, the examines the UAE’s successful delivery of aid to those in need, overcoming all of the logistical and technical challenges, to the extent that it accounted for more than 80 percent of the global medical response to the pandemic.
