Implications of WTO Membership and the Role of the UAE in the Global Economy

The speaker dealt with the relationship between
international trade and domestic economic performance.
He presented a brief overview of the generally accepted
principles of free trade, and presented some historical
facts regarding trade, economic development and
economic growth.
On the important role of international trade, he
noted that the world is experiencing greater economic
openness, which facilitates the initiatives of the World
Trade Organization (WTO). He reviewed WTO
activities since its inception and shed light on the
main difficulties obstructing the WTO in its endeavor
to reinforce international trade such as trade services,
primary products, items of intellectual property and
conditions for membership.
