Civil Society in the Middle East: A Long-Term Political Challenge

This lecture focused on the emergence of civil societies
throughout the Middle East, a topic which has surfaced
in this part of the world as a major focus of study only
within the last two decades.
The speaker discussed the relationship between
the emergence of civil society and political changes
facing the states of the region. These societies,
currently in transition, are characterized by a
fluctuation between cooperation and conflict of
their popular organizations and governmental
authorities.
