Sri Lanka and the Arab World

Sri Lankan–Arab ties date back to the pre-Islamic era,
when trade flourished due to the strategic geographic
positions of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean and the
Arab states in the Gulf. Lakshman Kadirgamar stressed
upon the role played by Muslim Sri Lankans, as they
constitute 7.5 percent of the population and occupy high
positions in the state, including four Muslim ministers
currently in the government.
