The Future of Inter Arab Relations

  • 25 February 2013

As the cliché goes "you chose your friends but your family are your fate or destiny." Like most clichés this one is based on truth but lacking in depth and complexity. The members of the Arab World will continue to be linked together in different degrees by history, geography, culture and national interest. As in the past, cooperation and discord will vary depending on the circumstances, the stakeholders and issues. Actions or inactions by the stakeholder in and beyond the region, domestic, regional and international will have consequences on relations in the Arab World as well as between it and its neighbors, allies and adversaries. The present and even the future will frequently have recurrent themes of the past. However new themes will also emerge and the modalities of governances, political, social and economic are changing and becoming more complex globally, regionally, and domestically including in the Arab World. New stakeholders are also emerging. How will all of this effect Inter Arab relations and its relations beyond the region, what are the challenges and opportunities for the years to come. These are all important questions that Ambassador Nabil Fahmy will attempt to address in his talk before….on February 25th.
