Anatoliy Zlenko discussed the trends in the Ukrainian
foreign policy toward further integration into European
and Euro-Atlantic political and economic bodies due to
similarity of culture way of thinking and understanding
within the Europe. Therefore, Ukraine needs to hold
its citizens to the European standards of life style. He
highlighted the energy and technological needs of Ukraine
and its interest in the establishment of regional security
spheres. Given its current position, he said that Ukraine
has the potential to transform itself into a regional player
by acting as a mediator in solving regional issues between
neighboring states and the European Union. Its position as
a “transit” state that funnels oil and natural gas to Western
Europe, combined with its industrial and human capital,
could enable it to play a larger role in the region.
He confirmed that Ukraine accords great importance
to building bilateral relations based on cooperation with the
UAE and the other Gulf states in order to enhance trade
and partnership in implementing investment projects. He
asserted his country’s readiness to carry out investment
projects and offer its advanced products in areas of aviation,
heavy machinery, agriculture, petroleum engineering, in
addition to its ability to provide efficient technical services
for the UAE satellites launching. He said the expected
visit of the Ukrainian Prime Minister HE Mr. Viktor
Yanukovych to the UAE – and other countries in the
region – this year, will provide the groundwork for
boosting bilateral cooperation.
