Dialogue Among Civilizations

Professor Steinbeck focused on modern cultural transformations in Western Europe entailing a reassessment of the stereotyped cultural model. In the Muslim world, such reassessment focused on adopting the western model while adhering to roots. Culture is a key element as it defines the relations associated with globalization and the danger of cultural assimilation that may accompany it. Adherence to culture is a decisive factor in opposing uniculturalism. To achieve integration without fusion or merger, Western Europe would have to move from the instruction culture to the learning culture and achieve pluralism peacefully. In this context a broader vision and mutual understanding is required.
